“All of science is uncertain and subject to revision. The fringe is the unexplored territory where truth and fantasy are not yet disentangled. The glory of science is to imagine more than we can prove.”
The above quote is taken from Dyson’s review of the book Physics on the Fringe: Smoke Rings, Circlons, and Alternative Theories of Everything. I haven’t read the book yet, but the review of the book is a great read. And I think the above quote applies very much to Fringe the TV show, as well as the Fringe 365 Project (where I have certainly been “imagining” sometimes more than I can “prove”!)
Now that this fringe artistic experiment is over and I am free, I wonder if it would be a cool project to conduct 365 fringe science experiments one per day, for a year. I’ll need paper clips, tin foil, flash powder, a sawhorse, deionized water, Milk of Magnesia, and a few corpses…
Nahh, on second thought, I’ll let someone else take care of that — and just get back to sketching, life drawing, learning more about perspective and form, some painting, and maybe a speculative piece of Fringe art every once in a while.
It’s been quite an adventure!
